Demolition of an ages-old quonset building in the 100 block of West Fourth in McCook exposes vintage "Red Rock Cola" signs. The tin advertising banners for the cola popular from the late 1800s through the late 1950s are part of the west wall of the Quonset, being demolished by Wendell Peters for AmFirst Bank in McCook. Kent Craw, president of the McCook AmFirst location, said Friday morning that the old metal building -- which was open on the east end and not able to be secured -- had become more of a liability than an asset, and is being removed for, at least the time being, parking for bank employees and customers. Red Rock Cola was endorsed by famous baseball player Babe Ruth, and was the only product he personally endorsed. Posters of him selling Red Rock Cola were printed in 1939.
