CURTIS -- Elenita Anderson, 81, died Thursday (April 24, 2008), at Hillside Estates in Curtis after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born Dec. 24, 1926, to Benjamin and Ellen Mae (Jensen) Russell at the Fox Creek Pioneer Farm north of Curtis. She grew up at Curtis on the Fox Creek Farm and attended school in Curtis. She graduated from UNSTA in Curtis in 1944.

On Jan. 15, 1949, she married Robert Erwin Anderson at the United Methodist Church in Curtis. She worked for United States Postal Service in Moorefield were she was Postmaster for 35 years, retiring only four years ago.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Neighborly Bells and St. John's Lutheran Church. She was also active in the Curtis Easter Pageant and the Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert in 1985; sisters, June McGinnis; sisters-in-law, Lela and Virgina Russell; brothers, Robert and Benjamin Russell and brothers-in-law, Dick Gourley, Gaylord Anderson and Dick Fischer.

Survivors include her sons, Rodney Anderson of Curtis and Wayne and wife, Debrah Anderson of Sheridan, Wyo.; sisters, Fern and husband, Deac Wills of Curtis and Anna May Gourley of Mount Airy, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Darlene Russell and Elane Fischer, both of Curtis; brothers-in-law, Jim McGinnis of Omaha, Alan and wife, Barb Anderson of McCook; seven grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will take place in the Curtis Cemetery.
