Home, Builders Show can make dreams a reality

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

If today's nice weather didn't give you spring fever, we're sure the snow and cold forecast for tonight and Thursday will.

Chamber of Commerce officials are hopeful the weather will clear for this weekend's annual Home and Builders Show, set for Friday through Sunday.

The annual event is like a county fair in the winter, bringing old friends and new acquaintances together to catch up on old times and find out about the latest and greatest.

The event, which has been in the old Wal-Mart store in Westview Plaza for the past few years, is moving back to the Army Reserve Training Center on Airport Road, because the west location is now home to the Sears Store.

Airport Road is a great venue, however, with larger restrooms, a kitchen facility and overhead doors for vendors to bring in oversized items.

New vendors this year include Cobra Pool Co. of Oxford, Trasher Basement Systems of Omaha, York dealer Parde Electric, Frontier Door of McCook, Lifetime Cookware of Lincoln, the Home Electronics Store of Curtis, Willow Creek Meats of McCook, Houlden Contracting of Cambridge, Great Plains Communications of Cambridge, Sito Building of Otis, Colo., Concrete Decor of Indianola and Platte Valley Home Safety of Kearney.

While there might not be prize chickens to brag about like the fair, a number of woodworking projects from students at McCook Senior High and McCook Community College will be on display to engender envy among amateur woodworkers, some of the items for sale.

The show is open Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission is $2, with kids under 12 free with a paid admission.

Each paid admission is automatically entered into a raffle for two $500 gift certificates, redeemable with home show vendors.

So look around the house and yard, and dream about projects you'd like to complete this year. Then, plan to attend this year's Home and Builders Show. There's someone there who can help you make those dreams a reality.
