Area wrestlers bring home medals from Irish Invite

NORTH PLATTE -- Chase County, Cambridge, Southwest and Dundy County-Stratton wrestlers competed in the Irish Invitational in North Platte Saturday.

Chase County finished second in the event behind Anselmo-Merna and Cambridge was third. Southwest took sixth and Dundy County-Stratton was 11th.

Jake Matthews, Kevin Barnard and Miles Spickelmier were first place winners for Chase County.

Lance Shifflet and Davin Doyle also took home first place medals for Cambridge.

Teammates Carson Farr placed second, Taylor Lewis third and Cody Vandegrift and Jacob Langley each were fourth.

Southwest's Heath and Kyle Teel led Southwest brought home first-place finishes in their divisions.

Dustin Bundy led Dundy County-Stratton won his division.

Tyler Bartak of Anselmo-Merna won the Pinner award and teammate Jesse Wells took home the Outstanding Wrestler award.

ARAPAHOE -- Arapahoe hosted the Warrior wrestling invitational Saturday.

Elm Creek won the invite, with Elwood taking second and Axtell following in third.

Arapahoe took seventh, Hitchcock County followed in eighth and Eustis-Farnam was ninth.

Rawlins County was 12th.

Foster Meier of Elm Creek was name Outstanding Wrestler and Ethan Jenkins of Arapahoe was name Pin Champion with three pins in a total time of 5:09.

Jenkins and Derek Helms led Arapahoe by winning the 215-pound and 285-pound weight divisions.

COLBY -- St. Francis, Oberlin, Rawlins County and Hoxie wrestlers hit the mats in the Northwest Kansas League Tournament Saturday in Colby.

Colby won the tournament, with Oakley taking second and Goodland finishing third.

St. Francis took fourth, Oberlin was fifth and Rawlins County was sixth. Hoxie finished seventh.

Justin Sherlock won the 152 class for St. Francis. John Binning finished first in the 189 for Rawlins County. Gage Reichert led Oberlin winning the 145 class.
