Letter to the Editor

New tradition

Friday, January 11, 2008

Dear Editor,

We're thankful to the entire community of Southwest Nebraska for making our Christmas season so special this year. For the first time, we made a computerized display that let the lights dance to the beat of the music that was being played.

Although getting ready for the display was a year-long project, it all was well worth it as we saw the faces and heard the comments of those of you who came to watch the show.

One of the special comments I heard as I gave out candy canes the week before Christmas was that of a young girl and her mother who said, "That was awesome! We feel a tradition coming on! Are you doing it next year?"

Yes, we are doing it next year and have already been ordering lights and more circuit boards!

As we visited with some of you, we were amazed at how far you had driven to share our Christmas spirit--from Haigler, Fort Morgan, and Wray, Colo., in the west to Bartley, Cambridge, and Indianola in the east, from Bird City to Oberlin in Kansas, and Imperial, Wauneta, Hayes Center, and North Platte to the north. As it got closer to Christmas there were even folks visiting from Alaska, Boston, Dallas, Michigan, and many more places.

Some of you generously offered donations for the light bill and we accepted your kindness but decided to share them with our local communities. We made donations to the Red Willow Rural Fire Dept., the McCook Ambulance, Culbertson Rescue Squad, Culbertson Rural Fire Department, and the Trenton Ambulance Squad on your behalf.

Thanks again for coming to see our display and we look forward to seeing you from Thanksgiving to New Year's this year.

Sincerely,

Gerald and Rosemary Corey

Culbertson
