Dark Christmas?

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Dear Editor,

The usual banal electric Christmas lights sometimes so ostentatiously displayed in our city are a complete waste of money.

Most of these cheap light bulbs are made in foreign countries by under-paid workers living under communism.

I strongly urge all citizens to unplug all this paraphernalia as it only serves as a target for fanatical extremist terrorists.

Steve Stramel,

McCook

P.S. Many of the few living people in Iraq have no electricity. We should be more Christian and send them the money we could save by turning off the lights.

  • Dear Bah Humbug, speak for yourself. i as a Christian will keep my lights on for validation of celebrating my "Father's" life and death. Christmas is a time for rejoicing and remembering why we are here on earth. By lighting up our home is in respect to our Christianity and time for celebration. The people in Iraq will get by just fine if they just celebrate in Jesus.

  • Who cares about Iraqi people any way. They see the Americans as their enemy anyway. And the ones we do help will later be building bombs to blow up our American soldiers. So give them nothing.

  • Dear Humbug, If you are so concerned about goods made by "under-paid workers" in other countries, check out the clothes you are wearing right now. I would like to see you march down Norris extolling the unfair workers in foreign textile factories.... (hides eyes!) The GRINCH couldn't stop the holidays and the lights and sounds; you can't either.

  • I don't tell people how to spend their money - they work hard for it so they can spend it as they see fit.
