Missing smelt

Thursday, November 8, 2007

Dear Editor,

Your story about the woman missing smelt from her Japanese homeland ran in today's Lincoln (Neb.) Journal-Star.

A man named Harold Proctor called and said his dad used to catch smelt in Sandy, Ore., and Portland, Ore. He said they could actually scoop the smelt up in nets because they were in schools are were small. Obviously, Oregon is a ways to go for smelt, but they can be found in the U.S. on the west coast.

Sincerely,

Joyce Howlett
