A slithering landmine (Bill Donze/Courtesy photo)

Dear Editor,

Although the moon was full, and the evening seemed like a great time to walk, you'd be wise to watch your step.

Tonight my walk came up on this guy in the picture, a nice-size rattler.

Rattlers like to gain heat from sidewalks and roads, before they go for their nightly hunt for mice, baby rabbits and kittens.

The near invisible crawling land mines carry enough poison to kill 10 men, and though the medical boys can save most from snake bites, the $40,000 cost will put you in debt for decades not counting health problems that may cut years off your life.

So, if you see what seems to be a rope laying out in front of your walk, take the second look before stepping on or near it. Yes, I did make this rattler a good one, as local children, elderly and pets need a safe place to play and walk!

Bill Donze,

McCook
