There were 31 volleyball players ranging in age from first grade through high school who participated in last week's McCook Community College Volleyball camp conducted by MCC Coach Gary Payne and assisted my members of the MCC volleyball squad.

The four-day camps were broken into three age divisions including: first through third graders, fourth through sixth graders, and junior high through high school.

"In the younger age groups we are trying to show them that volleyball can be fun, but yet we are also trying to teach them to do volleyball skills the right way," Coach Payne said.

"The camp we had for junior high and high school aged kids was a more progressive type of camp, where we taught them all of the volleyball skills and then had them demonstrate those skills in drills that we do here at the college."

All members of the MCC Volleyball team were on hand to help demonstrate the volleyball skills and to play volleyball with each camper.

"I really feel this was a good camp for the kids as well as the college players themselves. It was good for the kids, because they had the opportunity to pick a college girl, someone they can look up to, to help them with the skills instead of with another camper, and this allows the MCC players to help teach the kids with some one on one instruction."
