Letter to the Editor

Tales of glory

Monday, April 23, 2007

Dear Editor,

I sat down to a nice cup of coffee this morning (Saturday) to read the Gazette.

At first I thought I had a window open and a storm was approaching. Then I realized all the hot air was coming from the article I was reading.

Once again, Dick Trail has opened his mouth and shown the readers of your paper how pompous and ignorant he is. He insults the clientele of Sarge's Bar. My cousin Jeff, a Grand Island police officer and a Purple Heart recipient, is a client of Sarge's when he comes back to McCook. My father-in-law and a great family friend, both Vietnam Veterans patronize Sarge's. I also am a patron of Sarge's, twice served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and have devoted over 20 years of my life, serving our country.

I didn't realize those clients of the Looking Glass and the Copper Mill were better than us. I didn't realize our lower status in the eyes of our once great city councilman, county commissioner and retired Air Force officer. For those of you who did not know, Mr. Trail is a retired Air Force officer and commander.

Just ask him. He will tell you all about how wonderful he is. In fact, invite him down to Sarge's and ask to hear all his tales of glory over a beer.

Staff Sgt. David C. McConnell

McCook
