Mole soil, or the Man

Tuesday, March 27, 2007

Dear Editor,

Spring weather is a great time to stock up on seed planting soil. Yes it is easy to go buy a $10 bag of soil starts, but it is a lot more fun, with permission, to hit the pastures looking for fresh mole mounds of finely sifted soil. Over the last five years, if my memory doesn't fail me, this mole soil matches that store bought dirt.

In less than an hour, you can normally find at least 40 pounds of the stuff, and unless you're growing for the whole block, that should make your penny seeds do the work of a dollar plant and give you at least $20 bill in food, medicine and tools before the first snow flies next fall. The more you do for your self, the less you have to bow to the rich.

Good luck.

Bill Donze,

McCook
