Letter to the Editor

Reader confused

Monday, March 26, 2007

Dear Editor,

I grew up in McCook. Now I work for a national agency and much of my work requires me to search out news relevant to our work all over the country. In my daily search I was excited to see the McCook Gazette turn up, and was eager to read from a paper that I am familiar with.

I'm confused because I can't tell if this is a newspaper, in the traditional sense, or a Christian media outlet? I'm referring specifically to your recent article "Dealing with phantom chains" by Dawn Cribbs. Besides being overly dogmatic, it was a curious transition- to start a column out about phantom pain, which she did nothing to help relieve (phantom pain is a real medical condition, by the way, and while there is no sure cure, many treatment options are now available), then move into the phantom chains of sin where repenting is the only way out? What is exactly is the analogy here -- or is it just a thinly veiled sermon and a cute turn of phrase?

I am disappointed in your quality control. Don't your readers look to the newspaper for news and their local churches and families for religious guidance?

Sincerely,

Molly Moore

Knoxville, Tenn.
