No surrender

Friday, January 12, 2007

Dear Editor,

For months, liberals have been calling for the president to try a new course, there were even calls to send more troops. What they are actually saying is there is only one direction "surrender." Of course this would be political suicide, so instead they call it "redeployment."

The new Democratic Congress and Senate could pass resolutions withholding funding for the war effectively bringing the troops home.

This again would be political suicide, so instead you are going to see new resolutions against the troop surge that will lack any legal force.

And there are some who are rooting for failure, the "we can't win this war" crowd, no matter what the ultimate cost to the nation.

They will put their political fortunes above the safety of the American people and the lives of American soldiers, which is unacceptable.

I don't know if increasing the troop strength along with political, diplomatic and economic reforms in our president's new plan will end this war. I do know that pulling our troops out (redeployment) now would lead to the murder of thousands upon thousands of innocent people.

A terrorist victory in Iraq would be just the same as the communist victory in Vietnam, when the communist victors killed hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese after the fall of Saigon, forced more than 1.5 million into re-education camps and caused two million others to flee Vietnam altogether.
