Drive now, talk later

Thursday, January 4, 2007

Most of us in McCook got through the twin winter storms relatively unscathed, but now that the streets are open, we're getting out and about.

Even vehicles equipped with four-wheel drive are finding it difficult to get around on the ice, and the number of fender-benders in the daily police reports is picking up.

We're amazed, therefore, at the number of drivers we see chatting on cell phones while skidding through narrow passages between waist-high snowdrifts, missing other cars by inches.

What can possibly be so important to talk about that it can't wait until the car is safely parked?

Please, for your own safety and those around you: hit the "end" buttton and concentrate on your driving.
