Shade baby plants

Monday, July 17, 2006

Dear Editor,

Heat is the norm for this time of year, rain barrels are being drained about 4 inches a day, and there is little hope of saving new plants.

One of the ways is to shade them, just as any baby or young thing cannot take to much sun.

My covers come from dumpsters and yard sales and do quite well. When you pay big money for a plant, it is foolish to let ol' man sun kill it. I find plants with animal DNA seem to need more protection, but all new baby plants enjoy a bit of blocking from the mid-day sun.

Stake down shade as this is Nebraska, or your shade will be blown down to Kansas.

Bill Donze,

McCook
