Seniors, Juniors sweep Cozad

COZAD -- The McCook National Bank Seniors American Legion baseball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Cozad 7-6 Thursday night at Cozad.

The victory pushed the Seniors' record to 14-8.

The McCook First Central Bank Juniors blasted the Cozad Juniors 10-6 in a five-inning game and improved to 9-11.

The McCook Seniors scored one run in the top of the first inning, two in the third, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh on nine hits. Cozad helped with three errors and six walks.

Three pitchers worked for the Seniors. Brad Potthoff started and pitched 4 2/3 innings. He allowed five runs on six hits, struck out five, walked four and hit two batters.

Alex Sughroue pitched two innings and allowed two runs on no hits, struck out five, walked three and hit two batters. He picked up the victory.

Evan Koetter picked up the save. He struck out the only batter he faced in the bottom of the seventh.

Brett Burton had two doubles in four at-bats. He scored one run and drove in a run. Andrew Reitz scored one run. Koetter went 1-for-3, walked and drove in a run.

Jon Bryant went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two. Ryan Eder went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two. Michael Sinclair went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Sughroe scored one run and drove in one. Colton Cochran went 1-for-3. Brandon Kotschwar went 0-for-3.

The Seniors play at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Holdrege Tuesday.

FCB Juniors

The FCB Juniors scored three runs in the top of the first inning, three in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth on nine hits.

Cozad scored two runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second and three in the third on five hits and one McCook error.

Jeff Lorentz pitched a complete game for McCook. He walked four and struck out five.

Lorentz walked twice and scored twice. Mike Grabowski singled, walked twice and scored three runs. Adam Kruger walked twice, doubled and scored two runs.

Justin Spector singled, walked and scored a run. Austin Larson walked twice and hit a sacrifice fly. Lance Korte singled and scored a run.

Matt Thayer walked and scored a run. Chad Stull singled.

The Juniors host doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday against Sidney (4 p.m.) and North Platte (3 p.m.).
