Need another Norris

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

Dear Editor,

It just goes to show you that if you have enough money, know the right people and put your own needs over that of your fellow citizens, you can get anything accomplished or in this case, stopped, with our present City Council.

On one hand they say they all want what's best for McCook, but, gentlemen, actions speak louder then words and denying Viaero their special exception after they satisfying all your guidelines is just plain wrong.

I can sympathize with the residents of Prairie View, but where were they when the other special exceptions were requested? Surely they must fear for the residents where the other towers are located.

City Attorney Rhonda Vetrovsky is right, property devaluations are speculative and not a sufficient reason to deny the tower. And the "Not In My Back Yard" is an inefficient reason for denying the special exception.

On a closing note it's nice to see one City Council member vote with integrity instead of what was politically correct.

Apparently, the other council members forgot about one of their long speeches citing the integrity, courage and consistency that defined Sen. George Norris.
