Bilking residents

Friday, June 16, 2006

Dear Editor,

The (Wilsonville) board has raised water rates for two consecutive years, close to doubling the cost of water. Increases are commonplace in these times, with everything going up, but there has been no improvement in the system. This will show in the water tests -- for many years, the water has failed many tests year after year.

We have been told that the village has no money for maintenance and improvement, and that they need to raise revenue by increasing water rates.

Instead of using it for the village, they have embarked on spending someone else's money, not their own, on lawyers and frivolous lawsuits. They are driven by jealousy and personal vendettas, led by a thoughtless chairman. The board wants to act in a big-city fashion. With limited funds, Main Street will attest to the funds, with buildings beyond repair and lack of business to generate revenue.

The new residents who have chosen to locate there from other states, who account for a big part of the village, have been singled out and treated as outsiders.

Instead of appreciation for the number to help offset the costs of operating a small community, the "Good Old Boy" attitude prevails.

Some of the residents and board members think the village is one big junk yard. There are those who take pride in their homes, but are in the minority and are singled out. Some of the residents and board members have multiple code, ordinance and EPA violations. The women's group plants flowers and cleans the town up, and one board member a block away has a junk yard on both sides of the highway, and pens up animals in the junkyard.

I have been a part-time resident of Wilsonville for over 24 years. I moved here for the peace and quiet of a small community, which I still like. I am an American citizen and lived in many states, and fought for my country, not knowing I would be treated with bias and hate because I was not born in Nebraska. Driving by the cemetery on Memorial Day, seeing all the flags flying, describes hypocracy.

An American vet.

Dennis Stoltz,

Wilsonville
