Berryville, Ark. -- G. Delores Smith, 85, of Berryville, Ark., died Sunday ( April 30, 2006).

She was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Clayton, Kan., to Harley and Muriel (Gallatin) Woodside. She was raised in the Clayton area and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1939.

She married Dean Coulter Smith in 1939 in Los Angeles, Calif. The couple lived in California and Oregon before moving to Berryville.

She worked to establish programs for handicapped and retarded children and adults.

She was a member of the First Christian Churh in Berryville and the Women of the Moose, Chapter 638.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dean Smith; a son, Harold Smith; a brother, Darrel Woodside; a sister Donna Shafer; and a nephew, Rich Kenney.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin Smith of Vista, Calif and Jerry Smith of Ankeny, Iowa; a daughter, Muriel and husband, Frank Jones of Berryville, Ark.,; a daughter-in-law, Athena Smith of Salinas, Calif.; two sisters, Denise Kennedy of Canton, Ohio and Deanna McDougal of Oberlin; one sister-in-law, Beth Thompson of Forest Grove, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Judy Stricker officiating. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.

In leiu of flowers, memorials to the Delores Smith Memorial Fund or Green Forest Librarary are being accepted in her name.
