Letter to the Editor

Wife grateful for help getting husband home

Wednesday, March 22, 2006

Dear Editor,

I read a lot of letters, etc., where people are complaining or griping about stuff.

This is not one of those. So many people are so kind around here.

For example, my husband, an over the road truck driver, came into McCook last night after midnight and got stuck in the snow! Two McCook police officers came out in the middle of the night and got him unstuck and he finally got home around 2 a.m. after all day and night fighting winter storms and road closures to get home!

Then this morning, we wake up and begin to face the digging out process which looked pretty overwhelming to me! A gentleman from a few houses down came down and used his blower to clear off the majority of our walks!

My husband asked if he could pay him, the man said no thanks, not necessary, with a smile. I saw this same man helping at least one other homeowner dig his walk out after he had already cleared our whole block's sidewalk!

Then he sees my husband and I trying to get our two-wheel-drive pickup out to leave (not having much success) and he came over AGAIN and gave us the help we needed to get going. Again, not willing to take payment.

God bless these people and all the people around here. I'm not from here and it never ceases to amaze me the kindness of the people I come in contact with.

Our thanks and prayers goes out to these folks. Thanks for helping to bring my husband home safe.

Lorie Hoyt,

McCook
