Letter to the Editor

Spay Day USA

Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Dear Editor,

I hope that as your readers were planning the week's entertainment, while reading the entertainment section of the Gazette this weekend, they took the time to read the Humane Society of the United States article that was also printed in it.

Very important facts were pointed out in choosing the appropriate animal for a family pet. Each breed has distinctive traits that need to be taken into consideration BEFORE introducing it into your particular home.

Nothing is more heartbreaking than a pet that is adopted on the spur of the moment and then returned to the shelter to again experience the trauma of waiting for a new home. The shelter workers are always willing to help place the unwanted and neglected animals into the right "Forever Home." Thank you very much for printing this informative article.

Tuesday, Feb. 28 is "SPAY DAY USA" and the McCook Humane Society encourages every pet owner to spay or neuter your pet to eliminate the multitudes of unwanted pets that are surrendered each year due to negligence on the owners part.

For more information on spaying and neutering contact your local veterinarian or contact: The McCook Humane Society, 100 South St. Or call (308) 345-2372 during business hours, M-F 2-5 p.m., Sat. Noon to 4 p.m.
