Letter to the Editor

Kudos to auxiliary unit

Tuesday, February 7, 2006

Dear Editor,

There comes a time when you are speechless and yet you must get something said. There is a burst of energy and revitalization spreading through the community and it is being generated by the members of McDonald Ryan Unit No. 276, American Legion Auxiliary, Danbury. These member volunteers are taking membership to heart and seeking out new members.

As of Jan. 31, 2006, the unit has reached another plateau in membership with 107.692 percent of goal with 28 paid memberships. The unit is within 25 members of its all-time high membership of 53. With continued support, they could close the gap a bit more.

Much of the energy and time put into finding and keeping new members is not an easy task. These members are diligent in their search and welcoming members of their community into the unit. That is what every organization likes to see -- commitment, growth and a sense of stability.

Unit President Patsy Lee Redfern, Vice-President Norma Zink, Secretary/ Membership Chairman Joyce Weyeneth, and all members have their right musical notes working for them as we "Strike Up the Band" for Membership 2006. I am sure they are emphasizing the membership theme of "Veterans -- Our Soul & Inspiration" in order to explain our main program's center of veterans, children and youth in the community.

Congratulations to the members of Unit 276 for your continued support and growth in this fine organization. Thank you to the members of the community who have accepted an invite to join. A special thanks to the editor and staff for allowing us time and space in your publication as without you, I am sure we would find our search a bit more difficult.

Beverly A. Neel,
