Inaccurate statements
Dear Gazette Editor;
I must say I was less than pleased by the article printed in your newspaper on Jan. 25, 2006. I am, as Gene Mahon said, "Stuck's sister," who was as the courthouse when Dustin escaped. However, many statements that were reported were not accurate.
I did not cause a loud disturbance at the courthouse. If I was making such a disturbance, why wasn't I arrested or escorted out? I was upset by the judge's ruling; however when Dustin was talking to his lawyer, I was engaged in conversation with both officers. I did express that I felt Paul Wood was in the wrong in making certain statements in court and that in my opinion the county attorney would not be happy until Dustin was behind bars.
I did not yell or curse at anyone. Both officers were standing by the stairs as was I when my brother exited the attorney's room. Dustin proceeded to give me a hug and told me "I love you and everything will be all right" and then he ran past both officers down the steps. I do not appreciate being implicated in aiding my brother's escape by creating a diversion or otherwise. I had no prior knowledge of an escape plan and was simply there to support my little brother.
I also wanted to add that there was absolutely no "scuffle" on the steps between anyone. I am not disputing the fact that my brother did run from officers at the courthouse. I believe that he was scared and confused and made a very poor choice in actions. I do however want the public to know that Dustin is not dangerous as he has been portrayed.
I feel the statements made about me were not only unnecessary and inaccurate but a degradation of my character as well. I just thought the public deserved to know the truth.
Sincerely,
Renae N. Stuck
