Rated G

Editor:

Although I don't own a single piece of vinyl my music selection does cover the broadway, big band and rock and roll that Mrs. Cribbs recalls listening to, albeit digitally. My collection even includes jazz, folk, bluegrass, electronic, country, classical, etc., and not surprisingly much of the music was even inspired by the same basic religious beliefs the associate editor holds. Faure's requiem and "A Love Without End, Amen" come to mind.

Another piece comes to mind as well, John Lennon's "Imagine." I remember the first time I heard that song. I was so deeply affected by it I stayed up late for several nights, pen and paper close at hand, waiting to catch it again on the radio and record the lyrics.

"Imagine there's no heaven...no religion too...imagine all the world living life in peace..."

Now I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain yet but I will. I've never watched Will and Grace but since the show has won an Emmy I assume it has some redeeming qualities. Now why would the associate editor single out these shows?

So here's something I have watched. Normal nice people using their religions to justify attacking people and ideas verbally and, even more sadly, physically. Of course these attacks are not all done explicitly however the underlying ugliness of an antiquated unevenly enforced chapter of Leviticus is still apparent.

Mrs. Cribbs tact is not unnoticed, but in observing that she felt so strongly opposed to the content in the mentioned shows that she needed to write her article speaks volumes. Until these terminally oppressive views are done away with I can only hope that the argument will enjoy a rating of "G".
