Rooting for Houghtelling and the Huskers

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

With the largest crowd in NCAA volleyball history watching, Christina Houghtelling of Cambridge performed in magnificent fashion Saturday for the top-ranked University of Nebraska Cornhuskers.

To the delight of her family and friends in Cambridge and Southwest Nebraska, Christina captured Most Valuable Player honors in the Omaha Regional by pounding a match-high 18 kills to help the Huskers sweep Florida, 3-0.

Now, we get to cheer for Christina and her Nebraska teammates in the NCAA volleyball Final Four in San Antonio. Action begins Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the Alamodome when the Huskers take on Santa Clara. A win there will put the Huskers in the national finals against the winner of the 6 p.m. semifinal match between Washington and Tennessee.

It is a thrill to see Christina perform so well at such a high level. In television replays, Christina's spiking power was in spectacular evidence. Southwest Nebraska is proud of their homegrown superstar, Christina Houghtelling. We wish Chris and the Huskers all the best as they battle for the national title in San Antonio.
