Room for refugees

There are thousands of displaced persons as a result of Hurricane Katrina. People cannot stay in shelters for more than a few days. (We) should send an invitation to come to our Southwest Nebraska towns where there is affordable housing. There are homes sitting empty that are for sale or rent in all our small towns.

There are empty beds in rest homes and space in assisted living units. There also may be low-rent housing available.

Also, most of our schools could use more students.

The city officials should get together and figure out how many people they can make room for.
