Skilled crews in air, on ground, save plane

Jeff Polly and Toby Cox grab the drooping landing gear of a Cessna Centurion 210 plane from a pickup speeding 90 miles an hour down a runway at McCook Regional Airport Wednesday afternoon. Piloting the plane is experienced pilot Jim Hagert; his passenger is aviation mechanic Krent Townsend. Driving the pickup is race car driver Jeff Williams. Personnel from the McCook Police Department and McCook Fire Department responded to the incident. Twelve firefighters arrived with an ambulance, a rescue vehicle, the ARF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) truck and one fire engine. The airport was closed for the duration of the emergency.
