Letter to the Editor

Liberal court?

Wednesday, June 29, 2005

Dear Editor,

Here we go again. I am writing in reference to Kirt Matson's goof, again in the Open Forum of June 24.

Kirt, isn't that the same liberal court that gave the presidency to Bush in 2000? You didn't do your homework. Probably got your information straight from the mouth of your guru, Rush Limbaugh. You would like us to believe that four liberals on the Supreme Court are to blame for the ruling that state or federal governments can take property against the owner's will.

First of all, there are only two liberals on the court, and seven Republicans. Clinton nominated Ginsberg and Breyer, and Ford nominated Stevens, and Bush Sr. nominated Souter.

I am positive that neither would have nominated a liberal. Also, it takes five judges to make a ruling, so who was the fifth? Rehnquist, Thomas or Kennedy? If you think either of them would support four liberals, you've got to be kidding. You and George R. Anderson had ought to start a club, or maybe you already have. Call it the "Blame it on the Liberals Club." This would cover everything that goes on that you don't agree with, and would fool most readers into thinking you knew what you were talking about, or are you just frustrated at your hero's slipping polls?

Most Americans are beginning to catch on, finally. I agree, the ruling is scary, but there have been quite a few cases already perpetrated against people in the eminent domain excuse. Norwood, Ohio, to name one.

What about CAFTA? Who do you think is pushing that? One clue: He lives in the White House, or are you going to blame that on the liberals, too?

Bob Thayer,

McCook
