No site offered

Dear Editor,

In response to the article in the May 24 Gazette on the special City council meeting held on May 23 concerning the swap of property between the city and schools, a statement was made by Chief of Police Ike Brown: "If the facility (jail) were located outside city limits, as is being considered at this time, McCook residents would experience an across-the-board increase in insurance rates."

As chairman of the Red Willow County Jail Task Force, I feel it should be made known to the citizens of McCook and Red Willow County that the Task Force has not made any recommendations to the County Commissioners on a site for the facility (jail) and will not do so until Phase II of the study is completed. There are many issues the task force must deal with before a site can even be considered.

If Chief Brown knows something about a site the task force doesn't, we would appreciate him sharing it with us at the next task force meeting.
