NEW ALMELO -- Bernadine F. Diederich, 98, died Thursday (May 26, 2005), at the St. John's Nursing Facility in Hays, Kan.

She was born Oct. 4, 1906, to John and Anna (Zodrow) Schroer in Dresden, Kan. She attended Dresden Grade School, Leoville High School, graduating in 1922, and the Marymount Academy in Salina, Kan.

She married Bernard "Boots" Diederich June 25, 1929 in Leoville. She was a homemaker. The couple made their home on farms north of Dresden, west of Seldon and Jennings, in the New Almelo area.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bernard; four sons, John, Norbert, Jim, and Carl; one sister, Dorothy Olson; infant granddaughter, Linda Ann Meitl; and one grandson, Larry Meitl.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Diederich of Nevada, and Tom Diederich and wife Cheryl of Lenora, Kan.; three daughters, Loretta Meitl of Colby, Virginia and Daniel Rome of Lakewood, Colo., and Rose and husband Jed Simoneau of Cody, Wyo.; one sister, Clara Schieferecke of Dresden; 34 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

Services were today at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo, Kan. with the Rev. Vincent Thu Lang and Deacon Stan Chapin officiating. Interment was at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in New Almelo.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin was in charge of arrangements.
