Fireworks plea

Dear Editor,

With the warm weather that we have experienced in the last few days, Mother Nature has served notice that summer has arrived. And the big event for summer, of course, is the celebration of our American freedom on July 4th.

For several months now, the McCook Optimist Club Community Fireworks Display committee has been busily preparing for Monday evening July Fourth. We have placed a deposit with and met with our chosen contractor, Stonebraker Fireworks from Colorado, and the Red Willow County Fairgrounds has been reserved. We are anxiously anticipating a fun event and we hope to see you there.

Our current focus is gathering the needed funding for the event. Several programs have been put in place to help us gather the $5,000 needed to fulfill our contract with Stonebraker. (Thank you so very much for the continued community financial support.)

A benefit buffet will be held at our local Pizza Hut on Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A percentage of the proceeds from this buffet will be donated by Pizza Hut to our fund. We hope to have a good crowd. Thank you, Pizza Hut!

The time is growing short, and every little bit helps. Ten dollars here, fifty dollars there, adds up quickly. Please consider our project in your giving. You can send your donations to:
