Cemetery care

Monday, May 23, 2005

Dear Editor,

I am leaving town as soon as I mail this -- I was here to put flowers on my families' graves.

Needless to say, I was devastated when I saw the condition and neglect of the Riverview Cemetery.

Why was it allowed to get this way? Not sure what they're doing (it) had been mowed, some spots "scalped," big yellow spots, dandelions in large area, had bloomed and were just the big white "fuzzy" balls, standing, waiting for what I don't know; why they were not cut down.

There used to be a cemetery board to oversee the cemeteries, no more?

The Memorial Cemetery is beautiful and it was all mowed, trimmed and water going, there was no sign of water any place in the Riverview, there was a hose laying across several lots but nothing going.

The city should be ashamed of letting that cemetery get in that condition; guess they don't care. I doubt if any of the town council have even seen it?

To think Memorial Day is a week away, (there will be) a lot of sad people when they see the graves of their loved ones!

I won't be back for several years, maybe by then things will look better.

Is there any mowing, landscaping business that could help?

Thank you for your time,

Elizabeth Herman,

Bakersfield, Calif.
