OBERLIN -- Walter "Walt" Gilmer, 73, died Saturday (May 21, 2005), at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Oct. 22, 1931 to Guy A. and Mildred (Creager) Gilmer in Snyder, Colo. She was raised in Alamosa, Colo., and attended Alamosa Public Schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

On Jan. 16, 1954, he married Marilyn Nelson in Raton, N.M., and moved to Oberlin in 1975. He worked as a builder.

He was a past member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Don, Jack, Gene, John, and Jim Gilmer; and a half sister, Marie Dixson.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of Oberlin; one son, Scott Gilmer and wife, Nancy, of Goodland, Kan.; one daughter, Kathy Gilmer, of Yuma, Colo.; one brother, Bob Gilmer; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Bill Duncan officiating. Internment will be at a later date.

There will be no visitation as the body was cremated.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
