BEAVER CITY -- Merle Skiles, 96, died Monday, (May 9, 2005) at Beaver City Manor and Assisted Living in Beaver City.

She was born Sept. 19, 1908 to Arthur and Edna (Bristow) Hahn in Norton, Kan. She grew up in Norton County and graduated from Norton High School with the class of 1928.

She married Lewis Skiles on Aug. 3, 1930 at rural Furnas County. They lived in Wilsonville most of her life. She moved to Beaver City Manor and Assisted Living in May of 1999.

In her younger years she was active in 4-H and served on the council a number of years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wilsonville and had been a 60 year member of Eastern Star Rena Chapter No. 12 at Arapahoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis; one son Laverne; one sister, Eloise Hahn; and two brothers, Harold Hahn and Lloyd (Bug) Hahn.

Survivors include one son, Kelvin Skiles of Clasper, Wyo.; two daughters, Judy and husband, Delbert Beins of Beaver City and Donna and husband, Bruce Anthony of Hayward, Calif.; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Wilsonville with the Reverend Keith Theobold officiating. Burial will follow at Wilsonville Cemetery at Wilsonville.

Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services on Friday at the Methodist Church in Wilsonville.

Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City is in charge of arrangements.
