Watch out for me

Friday, April 29, 2005

Dear Editor,

I as a rider think I should be given the right to ride without a helmet if I so choose.

What's next requirement, wearing leather?

I guarantee that would lower the motorcycle death and accident rate in Nebraska because it would lead to less riders. I think that everybody that drives a car is worried because they might have a better chance of killing one of us "BIKERS" if we don't wear helmets because they are talking on their cell phones or putting on makeup or whatever the case may be. Bottom line is they would feel like they would have to pay a little better attention to the roads on warm sunny days which they should be doing every day.

I would also like to know the stats on bicyclists and skateboarders, roller bladers, etc. that are killed every year. Every day I see a small child bicycling with no helmet on not obeying stop signs and not looking before riding across the street. Yet they are not required by law to wear a helmet.

My questions to the helmet law supporters is this. Are us motorcylists more important or brittle than the children on bikes? I don't think so.

In closing I would just like to say I will be out there riding my chopped out bike with or without a helmet so please do me a favor and watch out for me, and to show my appreciation I will keep a close watch out for you.

Sincerely

Kevin Manley
