Letter to the Editor

Chief Chameleon

Wednesday, April 6, 2005

Dear Editor,

I read Steve Stramel's article in last week's Gazette with dismay, especially the part about Bush's statue in Norris Park, and his reference to Bush being the greatest president in U.S. history.

I figured the pigeons would take care of the statue, and then realized Steve was only kidding, of course.

When I read Kirt Matson's article on Saturday, I nearly puked. I thought you would be a little more cautious by now, Kirt, since you know he pulled strings to avoid combat during the Vietnam war, and he hung you out to dry with his WMD excuse for invading Iraq. That WMD excuse suddenly became Iraqi Freedom when no WMD were found in the first month.

I'll give Bush credit, he can change color faster than a chameleon.

Anything that works to his advantage. That boondoggle has cost us over $270 billion so far, and over 1,531 troops killed, and counting. For what?

The Iraqis had their election in December, and still haven't decided who is going to win the power struggle. Ron Reagan says that Bush wears his religion on his sleeve in order to get votes.

Bush says he wants to fix Social Security for us. It seems that the stock brokers and etc., aren't making any money on social Security as it now stands.

We can't have that, now, can we? He conveniently put off his prescription package until after the election. Starting in 2006, we will get a break on prescriptions for the first $2,500. We will have to pay from $2,500 to $5,100 ($2,600) our of our own pocket.

Called the doughnut hole, then the government kicks in again. Those who use the most drugs, or are the sickest, are going to get the shaft.

He saw that the minimum wage increase was killed by his boys in the Senate recently. I guess $7.25 an hour is really too much to gave a guy, or woman, who is holding down three jobs in order to make ends meet.

Most of his budget cuts seem to be aimed at the low income people. Who cares, anyway?

Most of them don't vote, and they don't vote Republican, anyway. Of course, the big boys still ge their tax break.

I am suspicious of the hike in gas prices. Of course, the fact that we have two oil people, Bush and Cheney, running the country shouldn't cause any suspicion. they wouldn't have anything to do with that, would they?

It amazes me that the American people accept this situation as if it were a natural occurrence. Someone told me you were an oil man, too, so naturally you like the extra bucks in your pocket.

You might take another look at the chameleon.

I'll be he doesn't make Mount Rushmore.

Bob Thayer,

McCook
