Falling sky?

Tuesday, March 22, 2005

Dear Editor,

I am writing in regard to Mike Hendricks column in Saturdays paper titled, "The sky is falling." I try to read his column every week and sometimes he dishes out some pretty good advice and other times it has little or no value. For instance, I like the way he challenges his students to work hard, put their shoulder to the wheel, be the best you can be, don't be slothful, think positively etc..

If you read your Bible, especially the book of Proverbs, you will see this is Biblical. God didn't make no junk!

But for the most part, his focus is on going to Lincoln, Omaha or Denver taking in a show, a play or a sporting event and then going to a favorite watering hole and staying in a real nice hotel or motel, getting up on Sunday morning, enjoying a good breakfast and then heading for home. His columns contain nothing of eternal values. The Apostle Paul said, "If this life is all there is, eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you may die. If in this life only we have hope, then we are of all men most miserable."

Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "He (God) has planted eternity in men's hearts and minds (a divinely implanted sense of purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy). People in a car wreck cry out, "help me I don't want to die. Please help me. I'm too young to die. I have a husband and children at home. Please help me." The ancient Pharoahs of Egypt built pyramids with large rooms because they believed in life after death. The Bible asks a very pointed question, "What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and yet lose his own soul (in hell)?"

Because the Bible is the Word of God, and God cannot lie, we should take its message very seriously. Do you know for sure where you will spend eternity, Heaven or Hell? How would you answer the question, if you knocked on Heaven's door and asked for admittance and God asked you, "Why should I let you into My Heaven?

"The sky is falling" because the Word of God says it is. I am not the author of the Bible, God is. "We have a more sure word of prophecy; wherein you do well to take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the daystar arise in your hearts." II Peter 1:19. The reason it is called a "More sure Word of prophecy" is because out of a little over 1,000 prophecies, 800 have already come to pass down to the last jot and tittle. That is absolutely awesome! The soon coming 7 year Tribulation period will also come to pass just as written and then Christ will return to destroy all the host of the wicked and set up His worldwide kingdom, with headquarters in Jerusalem.

"The cup is half full or half empty" has no bearing on the eternal destiny of the saved. However God promises to bless His children, to prosper them spiritually and physically when they walk in obedience to His word. Read Proverbs 3:9-10 and Psalm 1 & 23.  There are many others as well.

We as believers are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. We are heirs of all things. The riches of Heaven are ours

Sincerely,

Paul Schneider,

McCook
