Letter to the Editor

Other statistics

Monday, March 21, 2005

Dear Editor,

I would like to make a few comments to Mike Hendricks column of 3-19 A.D. 2005["The sky is falling," (http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/1091886.html)].

"The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good." (Psalm 14:1.) Not to worry though, Mike, being a fool is not the unforgivable sin.

There was once an old country pastor, who was retiring after more than 50 years of serving the Lord Jesus. One of his parishioners asked him, "What, in your experience, is the one thing that keeps people from giving their hearts to Jesus?"

He replied, "Actually there are two things, pride and/or sexual sin ."

Mike, there is one set of statistics that you neglected to mention in your column. The source of the following stats is from "Truths That Transform."

1. In 1950, there were five known STDs (sexually transmitted diseases); today there are 30, and 30 percent of these are incurable viruses.

2. Of everyone in the U.S.A. over the age of 12, one out of five is infected with Herpes, which is an incurable virus.

3. In the U.S.A. in 1967, upon graduation from high school, one in 32 graduates had an S.T.D. In 1983, one in 18. In 1996, one in four.

4. In the good old U.S.A. today, 47 percent of sexually active teen singles are infected with H.P.V. (Genital Warts), an incurable virus.

Some of these S.T.D.s are contracted by mere contact with the infected area.

I gleaned these facts from the cassette 8-19-21-02 GABC, titled "Sex Has A Price Tag," by Pam Stenzel. Pam is a public speaker who travels throughout the country.

Sincerely,

George R. Anderson,

McCook

P.S. Mike, what are the statistics concerning drug use by Americans today compared to, let's say, 1933?
