Letter to the Editor

Hooray for politicians

Wednesday, March 9, 2005

Dear Editor,

I find it rather funny that some members of our city council feel a code of conduct is offensive. Why? Are they such good Republicans that they can walk on water, or do they feel that since the Senate, the Congress, and even the President seem to have no rules to live by, they don't need any either.

You can go online, type in the name of almost any big corporation in America and find the corporation's code of conduct.

As far as not having an answer for a question goes, what would be wrong with politely telling the person you didn't have the answer right then, but that you would get an answer and let them know? Seems fairly simple to me, and that's one of the concepts of a class I'm taking at MCC.

With regard to the Florida woman who is in a coma, I find it inhumane to keep her hooked up to feeding tubes. We take pity on sick animals and put them to sleep. Why not people? This woman is obviously not going to come out of it, so let her go to what ever comes next and be done with it. If her parents want to take her home "as is," so be it, but let her husband get on with his life. There does come a time when you have to let go.

There is a little more than irony to the city's water problems. They've been known about for quite some time, if I remember correctly, and were conveniently swept under the rug until a later time. It finally got to be later, and the pricetag is quite large. Hooray for politicians everywhere.

Signed,

Robert A. Yost

McCook
