Letter to the Editor

Arrogant legislators

Thursday, February 24, 2005

Dear Editor,

It is interesting to read some of the outrageous comments made by Senator Tom Baker concerning term limits. ("Baker sees bad effects from term limits" http://www.mccookgazette.com/story/1089338.html")

Sen. Baker should be reminded that it was Nebraskans who voted overwhelmingly to enact term limits, not outsiders. The last I knew, outsiders are not allowed to vote in Nebraska.

If the legislators throw away our vote to enact term limits, then why should Nebraskans ever bother to vote on any initiative again? Voters defeated all of the initiatives concerning casino gambling. Will the senators try to throw away our vote on that also?

We will hear a lot more whining from legislators about term limits as it finally draws near. The arrogance that many senators are showing toward the will of the people is exactly the reason we voted for term limits.

Russ Rathjen,

Kearney
