Parking ideas

Tuesday, January 25, 2005

Dear Editor,

It has been a long time since I was last in McCook, but if my memory serves me right, is there not land available east of the community swimming pool north of the college for parking? If used, and growth continues, couldn't a parking garage be erected with a properly controlled crosswalk?

Also, could the street between the college and Weiland Field be closed to through traffic and diagonal parking put in place on both sides? Do not know how many spaces this would create, but some is better than none. Seems like this would be a temporary fix to a long- term problem, but it is an option.

As far as college expansion goes, what about the old Elks Club? It has plenty of space for parking, meetings and offices. Maybe, administration could relocate and keep class rooms together. If I remember, is there not room to grow there also?

Just throwing out ideas.
