Call councilmen

Friday, January 21, 2005

Dear Editor,

I don't understand the mentality of the McCook town council. Yes I said town. I know a lot of the people here would like to call this town a city, but the only thing "city" about it is their big ideas.

The only problem is they don't approve the ideas that will help the community to grow. A while back, everyone was crying because they were going to change the name of the college; boy that started a large uprising.

Now the same people are complaining because the college wants to expand. I guess the council members from years past must have passed their values on to the current ones. "Let's not grow, let's stay where we are and maybe the retirees that come in can support the town when everyone else leaves."

Come on, McCook, everyone needs to call a City Council person and express your feelings on the college expansion. Anyone who has ever been at the college during school hours knows that there is nowhere to park. I am a graduate of MCC and disabled, which presents another problem, because there are only three handicap parking spaces.

When I asked about more the college checked with the city and they were told it would cause a hazard to add more to the existing ones. Maybe someone can figure that out.
