Letter to the Editor

Where's our help?

Thursday, January 13, 2005

Dear Editor,

A funny thought occurred to me on the way to the forum the other day. When Florida had the four hurricanes hit, not one foreign country offered any assistance.

When the western part of the U. S. was burning, no one offered money to ease the losses suffered by the people. Yes, some did send fire fighters who do risk their lives, and I commend those who did.

Not one of the leeches has offered any help to California in the wake of the mud slides caused by the unusually heavy rains.

On the news tonight, it was reported that Indonesia has invited us to be gone by March, if I heard right. I suggest we leave now and bring our money home with us. Let them die in their polluted countries surrounded by their own filth.

We have children in this country who are hungry and sick, whose parents can't afford much in the way of food, let alone medical insurance. We have adults who lack the basics required for anything more than the meanest existence on the streets. These people come in all shapes, sizes, ages and cover the full spectrum of nationalities.

As far as I'm concerned, the next time some country gets its mammary gland in a wringer, let's let them figure out how to extract it. They don't want us there anyway.

Instead of feeding foreigners, quit looking down your self-righteous noses and feed the needy at home. Who knows, the family you help might be your neighbors.

Thanks for the space.

Signed
