Letter to the Editor

Memorial bears?

Friday, December 3, 2004

Dear Editor,

There have been many well-deserved positive comments made about McCook's teacher/coach Ron Coleman. His loss is a tragedy for our community.

We were moved by Rich Barnett's radio tribute when he described Ron Coleman as a big, lovable teddy bear.

We saw the same sentiments in Wednesday's Gazette editorial describing Ron as a big, loving, teddy bear of a man.

With that thought in mind, maybe we could pay another tribute to Coach Coleman. How about a quick plan to give teddy bears to the Toy Box as a memorial to R.C.?

I checked with Santa and he said they could always use more teddy bears and stuffed animals. McCook National Bank would be willing to serve as a collection point until the distribution on Dec. 12.

This is an activity that young people can participate in and also benefit other children.

I'm thinking Ron Coleman would be OK with this idea.

Duane Tappe,

McCook

P.S. The tear in the buffalo's eye was very poignant.
