Hunter or not, you'll enjoy edition

Thursday, October 28, 2004

Different people have different reasons for celebrating fall. For some it's the harvest, for others, the color and beauty or the turning leaves, and for still others its the opportunity to get out into the golden plains and freshly cut fields to commune with nature and take on the challenge of the hunt.

This year's annual hunting guide is unlike any the Gazette has published, because this year much of it was written by our readers and illustrated by city editor Gloria Masoner.

As you thumb through the edition, you will find a hilarious story written by Writer Ray of Palisade. The story follows the adventures of the writer and his friend Wayne on a bear hunt. Imagine the chaos that can be caused by a can of lamp fuel, an ungreased muzzle loader pistol, a bear and a tent full of feathers.

A story submitted by Russell Banzhaf of McCook tells of his many encounters with natures creatures. And "When does the deer win?," written by Larry Fritz of McCook is a story of how the hunter can sometimes be outhunted.

These and other submissions fill the pages of the hunting guide, along with tips on pheasant hunting, turkey hunting, taking a deer with a bow and arrow, and the proper care of a deer after the shoot.

Whether you hunt or not, this year's guide is sure to bring a bright spot into your day. So be sure to take a few minutes and enjoy.
