Letter to the Editor

Not afraid to sign

Wednesday, October 27, 2004

Dear Editor,

Concerning a letter that was in the open forum on Oct. 15.

I was told I had to sign my name, address and telephone number for a letter to be printed in Open Forum. There was no way the person that had signed this particular letter could have done so. Is there a double standard at the Gazette?

The person who wrote the letter did not appear to know what the lawsuit is actually about. Perhaps this person, who wouldn't sign their real name, should take the time to find out. A hint ... it has nothing to do with the merger ... never did. Another hint ... it has nothing to do with a school building ... never did.

Doesn't this person wonder why there is more than one lawsuit against this school district? Doesn't this person wonder why five different Supreme Court Justices asked Kelly Baker (lawyer for Southwest School District) one of the following questions: Why didn't you follow the law? Why did you break the law? Why didn't you follow the Nebraska statutes?

One of these questions was asked five different times during a 10-minute speech. Doesn't this person wonder if just maybe there were mistakes that should not have been?

The person who wrote the Open Forum said "I reread the old article." If this person reread the article, she or he had plenty of time to find out the answers long before this since the first article in the paper was put in just before the primary election in May. This was only an attack to discredit Brad Randel right before the election, just as it was the first time. If, instead, this person had taken the time to meet Brad, ask him questions and find out his stand on school issues, he or she would have found a person very qualified for a seat on the school board.

By the way, McCook is building their new school because they did it correctly the first time.

Not afraid to sign my name,

Joyce Remington,

Danbury
