Letter to the Editor

Weedy cemetery

Tuesday, August 31, 2004

Dear Editor,

I was born and raised in McCook, and over the years, I have always looked back upon the town with pride and fond memories.

However, recently, I was visiting McCook and went to Riverview Cemetery to place flowers upon my parents' graves. I was very much dismayed and saddened by the condition of that cemetery.

It looked as if it hadn't been taken care of in years. The weeds have definitely taken over, and old grass clippings were almost cemented to the markers in the cemetery. It amazed me that something so pathetic could be happening in my hometown.

When I returned to my home in California, I called the city offices to express my concerns about the condition of Riverview Cemetery, but really did not get a satisfactory response from anyone.

I only hope that the citizens of McCook will notice this and get action in turning around the deplorable conditions in Riverview Cemetery. McCook owes this respect to all of its former residents who are buried there.
