Where's the library?

Monday, August 2, 2004

Dear Editor,

I read with interest the news article concerning the construction of the new elementary facility (July 29, 2004). The article explained, in detail, the changes and additions of the elementary facility.

Changes include a new sprinkler system, new lockers, new cabinetry, new physical education room, and bathrooms in all resource, preschool and kindergarten classrooms. These changes are good, but where is the library? In this particular article, there was no mention of the school library.

The school library should be the center of a school building; elementary, junior high or senior high. The library provides students and teachers with the information they need to answer personal and academic questions.

Along with the tremendous amount of information available in a well-stocked library, students and teachers can also find good books to read for fun. I hope the school library is being given the same consideration as all of the other aspects in this new facility.

EDITOR'S NOTE -- Earlier stories noted that the new building's "media center," will be in space now occupied by North Ward's gymnasium and lunch room, which will indeed be in the center of the new building.
