Letter to the Editor

Chance encounter deeply moving

Tuesday, June 1, 2004

Dear Editor:

In 1970, at the height of the leftist "peace" movement, I received my draft notice and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. The very same leftists who called me a baby killer, are now promoting the murder of babies through abortion.

In Saturday's Gazette I read the letter "A Chance Encounter," and I haven't been so deeply moved since the first time I read the book of Ecclesiastes. The real peace movement is with the United States Marine Corps. Nobody likes to fight, but somebody has to. Unfortunately, the ones who are adamant about not serving this country are usually the first to complain. The Bible says that if a man doesn't provide for his family, he is worse than the heathen. Providing is protecting. I'm going to believe what God says.

Included is a copy of a certificate I received in 1974. God bless the U.S. Marine Corps and God bless the U.S.A.

Sincerely,

George R. Anderson
