Elizabeth Ellen Thayer

COLBY, Kan. -- Elizabeth Ellen Thayer, 89, died Sunday (April 18, 2004) at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby, Kan.

She was born Oct. 19, 1914, to Grover and Jennie (Walkey) Hoppas in Dresden. She was raised in Rexford and attend schools in there. She graduated from Rexford High School.

In 1934, she married Wilbert Hiram "Webb" Thayer. She lived in California for most of her marriage and then returned to Rexford. She was a veteran's hospital aide.

She was a member of the Red Barn Senior Center in Rexford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Lucinda Hoppas; and husband, Wilbert "Webb" Thayer.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Gormley of Palmdale, Calif., and Jackie and husband, Ray Johnson of Rexford; one sister, Arlene Standley of Rexford; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are Thursday, 11 a.m., at Dresden Cemetery in Dresden with Lane Purcell officiating.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Prairie Living Center and the Northwest Kansas Animal Shelter.
